Our Story

About The Ashram

Swami Jagannath Ashram isn't just a building; it's a breath of fresh air for the weary soul. Born from a desire to keep our Vedic roots alive, we've created a home in the quiet lanes of Doctor Colony where you can leave the world behind.

Whether you're here for a few days or a few weeks, we focus on the little things—the silence, the clean air, and the gentle energy that supports introspection. Our architecture and interiors are thoughtfully designed to reflect the purity of the surrounding holy land while ensuring our guests feel at home with modern amenities.

1. Founder

Saketvasi Swami Jagannath Das Ji Maharaj

Swami Jagannath Ashram, Rishikesh, was established in the year 1950 by Saketvasi Swami Jagannath Das Ji Maharaj, after whom the Ashram is named. He was a great ascetic and highly respected spiritual scholar. He dedicated his life to spreading spiritual knowledge across India, especially among women and families, teaching them about Yoga, Indian culture, sacred scriptures, the Bhagavad Gita, and other religious texts. He was known for his simple, humble, and spiritual nature and devoted his life completely to meditation, spiritual practices, and service to society. The Ashram established by him continues to serve as an important center of spirituality.

2. Second Mahant

Saketvasi Swami Puran Das Ji Maharaj

After Saketvasi Swami Jagannath Das Ji Maharaj, his chief disciple Saketvasi Swami Puran Das Ji Maharaj became the second Mahant of the Ashram. He was also a great ascetic and learned saint, known for his simple and spiritual nature. He always remained deeply engaged in meditation and followed the philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, considering everyone as a part of one universal family. He carried forward the teachings and traditions of his Guru and continued the spiritual activities of the Ashram, strengthening the values of Dharma and spiritual discipline in society.
